Spray Foam Insulation
What's included in the Spray Foam Insulation Kit?
Each kit contains everything you need for a complete insulation job:
- 1× Spray Foam Insulation can (26 oz / 737 g)
- 1× Foam Gun Cleaner (9.8 oz / 277 g)
- 1× Spray Insulation Foam Gun
- 2× short and 1× long foam gun nozzle tips
- 10× spray foam can nozzles
- 1× protective suit, 1× safety glasses, 12× pairs of gloves
Is Ixirpro spray foam open-cell or closed-cell?
Ixirpro produces closed-cell spray foam exclusively. Closed-cell foam is denser, water-resistant, structurally rigid, and provides higher thermal insulation per inch than open-cell. We don't offer open-cell products.
How much area does one can cover?
Coverage depends on the can size:
-
26 oz can → covers approximately 20 board feet at 1″ thickness
-
30 oz can → covers approximately 26 board feet at 1″ thickness
A "board foot" equals 1 sq ft at 1 inch thick. So a 30 oz can covers 26 sq ft at 1″ thick, 13 sq ft at 2″ thick, or any equivalent combination.
What's the R-value of the foam?
Ixirpro Spray Foam has an R-value of R-5.66 per inch. As a closed-cell polyurethane foam, it sits in the medium-high range for thermal insulation performance. A higher R-value means better resistance to heat transfer — practical examples: 2″ application gives R-11.32, 3″ gives R-16.98, 4″ gives R-22.64.
How do I apply the spray foam?
- Shake the can thoroughly before use.
- Attach the foam gun and apply evenly to the target area.
- Let it expand to fill gaps and cracks.
- Wait 24 hours for full cure before cutting or shaping.
Wipe excess foam with the foam cleaner before it cures — once it sets, you'll need to cut it off.
How long does the foam take to cure?
Tack-free in 5–15 minutes. Cuttable in about 1 hour. Fully cured in 24 hours. For maximum strength and insulation performance, don't sand, paint, or stress the foam until the 24-hour cure is complete.
What's the temperature range for application?
For best results, apply when both the can and surface are between 60°F and 90°F (15°C–32°C). Cold chemicals don't mix or expand properly. If your kit has been cold, store it indoors at room temperature for at least 24 hours before use.
What surfaces does the foam stick to?
It bonds well to glass, MDF, wood, metal, concrete, stone, brick, granite, plaster, and most building materials — indoors and outdoors.
⚠️ Avoid polyethylene, polypropylene, silicone, Teflon, and other non-stick plastics — foam won't adhere to these.
Can I paint over spray foam after it cures?
Yes. Once fully cured (24 hours), the foam can be trimmed and painted with most water- or oil-based paints. UV light yellows and degrades exposed foam over time, so painting or covering is recommended for any visible installation.
Is the spray foam fire-resistant?
Ixirpro spray foam does not currently include fire-retardant additives. Per most building codes, polyurethane foam must be covered with an approved thermal barrier (such as ½″ gypsum drywall) in occupied living spaces. Always check your local building code requirements before installation, and never leave foam exposed near heat sources or open flames.
Will spray foam attract mold or pests?
No. Cured polyurethane foam has no nutritional value and isn't a food source for mold, mice, or insects. Closed-cell foam acts as a moisture and air barrier, which actually reduces mold risk. Pests find sealed walls and crawl spaces harder to penetrate after foam application.
Can I use spray foam for soundproofing?
Closed-cell foam provides moderate sound dampening, especially for blocking air-transmitted noise that travels through gaps and seams. While it's not as absorptive as open-cell foam for pure acoustic applications, it still meaningfully reduces sound transmission in walls, ceilings, and crawl spaces — particularly when paired with sound-absorbing materials like rockwool batts.
Can I use spray foam outdoors?
Yes, when protected from direct sunlight (under eaves, in crawl spaces, on the underside of decks). Direct UV exposure causes the foam to yellow and break down over time. For exterior use, cover the foam with paint, drywall, or appropriate sheathing.
Can the foam be cut, sanded, or shaped after curing?
Yes. Once fully cured, the foam can be trimmed with a serrated knife, sanded, or shaped to a smooth finish. For closed-cell foam, a coarse rasp or grinder works best.
What's the shelf life of the spray foam?
Unopened cans have a shelf life of up to 2 years from the manufacturing date when stored at room temperature in a dry, ventilated area. Once opened, use within 30 days — the gun stays usable longer if cleaned properly between sessions.
Will the foam damage electrical wiring or plumbing?
No. Cured foam is safe around standard electrical wiring and copper or PEX plumbing. Avoid spraying directly into electrical boxes — cover them with masking tape during application.
Where should I NOT use spray foam?
- Around recessed lighting that isn't IC-rated (heat hazard)
- Directly on hot surfaces like furnace flues or chimneys
- On non-stick plastics (PE, PP, Teflon, silicone)
- On wet surfaces (>20% moisture)
- In sub-50°F temperatures
Foam Gun & Cleaner
How does the foam gun cleaner work?
Spray it onto uncured (fresh) PU foam, wait a moment, then wipe. It dissolves wet foam off your gun, surfaces, and tools. Use it after every job to keep the gun in top condition.
How do I clean the foam gun after use?
After your last spray, leave the can attached and pull the trigger to expel a small amount of foam. Then thread the foam gun cleaner onto the gun and trigger it through to flush. Detach, wipe down the exterior, and store with the cleaner threaded on for next use.
Will the cleaner remove cured foam?
No. Once foam has fully cured, only mechanical removal works — scraping, sanding, or cutting. The cleaner only dissolves uncured foam. Always clean tools immediately after use.
Can I reuse the foam gun for future projects?
Yes. With proper cleaning between uses, the foam gun lasts for many cans and projects. Some users keep the gun threaded onto a partial can stored in a cool place — the foam stays usable for up to 30 days.
CA Glue with Activator
What is CA glue?
CA stands for cyanoacrylate — the technical name for "super glue" or "instant glue." It bonds in seconds by reacting with surface moisture, creating a clear, strong, waterproof seal.
What's the difference between the three viscosities?
-
Thin — water-thin. Wicks into hairline cracks, finishes wood pen turnings. Sets in 2–5 seconds. No working time.
-
Medium — like olive oil. Everyday all-purpose choice for general bonding. Sets in 10–25 seconds.
-
Thick — gel-like. Fills small gaps and gives 30–60 seconds of working time to position parts.
What does the activator do?
The activator (also called accelerator) instantly cures CA glue when sprayed on. It's especially useful for thick CA glue or for bonding very dry materials that don't have enough surface moisture to trigger curing on their own.
What materials does CA glue bond?
Wood, metal, glass, ceramic, leather, marble, rubber, stone, bone, hard plastics, hobby models, and most porous materials.
⚠️ Avoid polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), silicone, Teflon, and other non-stick plastics — CA glue does not bond to these without a special primer.
Is CA glue waterproof and heat-resistant?
Waterproof: Yes. Once cured, CA glue resists water and most solvents.
Heat: Tolerates moderate heat but begins to soften above 180°F (82°C). Not recommended for engine parts, ovens, or other high-heat applications.
How should I store CA glue?
Store unopened bottles in a cool, dry place. Many users keep unopened bottles in the freezer to extend shelf life — let them return to room temperature before opening to avoid condensation. Once opened, store at room temperature with the cap tightly sealed. Avoid humid environments.
What's the shelf life of CA glue?
-
Unopened, room temperature: up to 2 years from manufacturing
-
Unopened, frozen: even longer storage life
-
Opened: 1–3 months at peak performance — store in a cool, dry place to extend usable life
What if my CA glue isn't curing properly?
The most common cause is bone-dry material with no surface moisture. CA glue cures by reacting with humidity. Try lightly misting one surface before applying, using the activator on the other surface, or switching from thin to medium viscosity for porous materials.
Help — I got CA glue on my skin!
Don't panic and don't pull. Soak the area in warm soapy water for 5–10 minutes, then gently roll the skin apart. Acetone (regular nail polish remover) also dissolves cured CA glue. For eyes or large areas, contact a doctor immediately.
Can I sand or finish over cured CA glue?
Yes. Once cured (within 60 seconds with activator, or a few minutes without), CA glue can be sanded, drilled, machined, or finished. Many woodturners use thin CA + activator as a glossy finish on pens and small turnings.
Is CA glue food-safe?
CA glue is not certified for direct food contact. Don't use it on dishware, cutting boards, or anything that touches food.
Balloon Shine Spray
What is balloon shine spray and what does it do?
Balloon shine spray gives latex balloons a long-lasting, glossy "frozen-bubble" finish. A light coat extends float time, prevents oxidation (the matte chalky look balloons get after a few hours), and makes balloons photograph beautifully — perfect for events, weddings, and party styling.
How do I apply balloon shine spray?
- Inflate your balloons fully and tie them off.
- Hold the can about 8–12 inches away.
- Apply a light, even coat across the surface.
- Let dry for 1–2 minutes — the shine deepens as it cures.
For maximum gloss, you can apply a second coat after the first has dried.
How long does the shine last?
The glossy finish typically lasts days to weeks depending on conditions. In dry, climate-controlled rooms, balloons stay shiny longer. Heat, direct sunlight, and high humidity shorten the effect.
Will balloon shine spray pop my balloons?
No. When applied as directed (light coat from 8–12 inches), the spray is safe for fully inflated latex balloons. Avoid spraying very close, applying excessive pressure, or using on under-inflated or aged balloons that may already be weakened.
Does it extend balloon float time?
Yes — the shine layer reduces surface porosity, which can slow helium escape modestly. Combined with the gloss effect, this helps balloons maintain both appearance and float for longer.
Does it work on foil or mylar balloons?
Balloon shine spray is formulated for latex balloons. Foil and mylar balloons already have a glossy metallic surface and don't need it — applying it may dull the metallic finish.
How many balloons does one can cover?
A single can typically treats 40–80 standard 11″ latex balloons, depending on application thickness and balloon size. For event styling, plan one can per ~50 balloons as a guideline.
Is balloon shine spray safe for indoor use and kids' parties?
Yes — when used in a well-ventilated area and as directed. Apply outdoors or in an open garage if possible, then bring balloons indoors once dry. Keep the can out of children's reach. Read the safety label before use.
How do I clean overspray off floors or furniture?
Wipe up wet overspray quickly with a damp cloth. Once dried, gently buff with rubbing alcohol or mild soapy water. Avoid spraying near upholstery, curtains, or unfinished wood.
